Deborah S. Presken, M.D.
Introducing Deborah S. Presken, M.D.
Deborah S. Presken, M.D., is more than a physician; she's a compassionate advocate for humane, intelligent, and humorous healthcare. Her journey began at Wellesley College, where she co-founded a suicide prevention hotline and passionately fought against apartheid and anti-Semitism.
While initially harboring dreams of single-handedly solving the Middle East Crisis, a life-altering event reshaped her path. Dr. Presken's closest friend was diagnosed with lymphoma and, tragically, lost the battle to the disease. This heartbreaking experience ignited her commitment to becoming a physician dedicated to treating patients, their families, and friends with the utmost dignity and respect. It was a turning point that instilled in her a profound passion for acquiring the knowledge necessary to prevent and minimize the impact of diseases, even if the Middle East Crisis remained unsolved.
Dr. Presken's dedication to volunteerism and multicultural matters has left an indelible mark on her life. She has consistently volunteered her medical expertise in underserved communities, homeless clinics, and even as an extern with the United States Public Health Service. Her belief in "repairing the world" has led her to provide medical care in diverse settings, from Honduras to Israel, and at clinics for victims of Chernobyl, Bedouin communities, and the border clinic in Tijuana, Mexico. Dr. Presken most recently volunteered with a group of women physicians to help Ukrainian refugees on the border of Ukraine at the start of the Russian invasion.
As part of her commitment to healing and advocating for those in need, Dr. Presken has volunteered with HealthRight International. In this role, she evaluated victims of torture and persecution from other countries, acting as an expert witness to support their asylum applications in the United States. She has also had the privilege of training other physicians to serve in this capacity.
Family holds a special place in Dr. Presken's heart, and it's the most cherished aspect of her life. She is a loving wife and the proud mother of three amazing children. Together, they revel in the beauty of Colorado through hiking, biking, and enjoying the great outdoors. The Presken family also includes a delightful menagerie of rescued pets, including dogs, cats, and even a backyard chicken coop with three beautiful hens. The commitment to family extends to the clinic itself, where her daughters occasionally assist with phone calls, and her husband manages office operations.
When it comes to education, Dr. Presken's background speaks volumes. She graduated cum laude from Wellesley College in 1989 and then pursued her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She completed her residency in family medicine at the West Suburban Family Practice Residency Program in Chicago. With almost 30 years of experience, she maintains board certification in Family Medicine and an active medical license in Colorado. Dr. Presken's dedication extends beyond her own practice; she spent five years evaluating physicians from various specialties nationwide, ensuring they provide high-quality care with the Center for Personalized Education for Physicians (CPEP).
Beyond academic achievements and certifications, what truly matters to Dr. Presken is your comfort, health and confidence in her practice, her team, and her own values.
